Today we found ourselves driving in a winter wonderland in South Dakota, in the beginning of October?!? We woke up bright and early to see Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the Jewel Caves before we driving to Wyoming, but were thwarted by a mini blizzard. We sort of made out the profiles of the presents through the snow, but had to skip Crazy Horse because we didn't think we could make it up the snowy incline to the monument. Bummer! And by the time we reached Jewel Cave, we could tell we needed to move on out and find a hotel to wait out the storm. We drove through the Black Hills National Park on our way to Wyoming. There were dense areas of dark pine trees, then completely burned out sections. Maybe controlled fires or some kind of tree disease? We weren't really sure. While we were driving to Gillette Wyoming we saw some Antelope, which were pretty cool looking. We also saw some some oil fields. We decided to treat ourselves to a nicer hotel with a hot tub, so we sat inside in the hotel pool area and looked out at the snow. Ramen for dinner made in the hotel coffee pot and a bottle of wine. This is the life.
